Roughs from October of 2009.
Good to see that this is still getting some love! A great moment was seeing this poster up with on the walls of 427 Design before I even started working here.

I have been working rather consistently this semester on Project 1 of TypoPhoto. We are given the task of taking an already existing children’s book and re-imagining it as a typographically driven story. I picked Neil Gaiman’s The Dangerous Alphabet. It is a story about two kids who go on a treasure hunt through very murky, spooky and dangerous scenarios.
For this, I hand illustrated every letter in the alphabet and major/focus words for each. Then after inkwashing them, I scanned them in and reassembled it with InDesign. The paper I printed the book on was stained with tea, coffee and flour (for texture) and cured in an oven at 300 degrees. The cover is on bond.

This is fantastic. I actually said “wow” vocally when I first saw it. I think I’ll critique this on my design blog soon.
Please do. I’d be happy to hear what you think. I’ll have more photos and details of it soon since I will be rephotographing my portfolio in the next week or so. Thanks for the reblog and compliments.

Jameson after cleaning wood type (Taken with instagram)
Timbrook said that type hasn’t been organized since it was first brought to the Art Building in 2004. I’m happy to finally give it a place in the drawers instead of those collapsing boxes.
