There is a special place in my heart for these classic NBA team logos. Some teams never change their logos (like the Chicago Bulls for example), but other teams often change theirs. Both of these logos though, had been around before I got into the sport, but were updated right around the time that I was at the peak of my interest (which has since returned). There is something to be said about these two particular examples. Both of which have moved on to… well, other things.
The Denver Nuggets logo, which is awkwardly colored as it is unique and unexplainable in a single glance, yet it has this retro early 80’s mighty REMEMBER ME effect. I hated it then, and I still dislike it now, but even so… I still love it. The new one though is an improvement I suppose.
The Atlanta Hawks logo though, is supremely well designed in my opinion. They have since moved on to a more obvious and less intelligent logo. This particular one, though it does look like a more menacing Pac-Man when viewed right. I really like that the bird being a symbol rather than an animal is still clever and has a great reproduction level added to it. Plus I think it looks kind of futuristic for being made in 1973!
It is just interesting though, reviewing some of these logos that I remember and noticing that many of them started to change around the same time. The middle of the 1990s was the rapid growth of the NBA brought on by the incredible fame, talent and fortune of Michael Jordan. So here is to retro logos. Maybe I’ll post more later.
