MATERIA

For my Intro to 3D Design class, we were given a lot of freedom in regards to our current project.  The problem to solve, is to create a creative package to an already existing product.  I chose wine bottles as my subject, as wine has become a recent interest of mine.  Instead of choosing a company that already exists, I decided to create a new company from scratch and use this opportunity to create the packaging for a limited edition release of their introductory wines for 2009.  I named the company MATERIA after the magic system of Final Fantasy 7 (a favorite of mine) and set the company in the Nibelheim Valley of Mount Nibel from the game itself.  It was a random choice but gave me the freedom to create a fun story (most wine companies have a paragraph or two devoted to the history of the company or its name on the bottle).  From there I decided that I wanted to reach out to the 21 to 35 year old demographic that isn’t usually the consumer basis for the wine market by designing something that had a bold image, as well as a decorative appeal that plays on two of my main design ideaologies: We are in the Baroque of design, and the Deco era gave communication arts its starting point and purpose.  

I’ll post the finished product later, but below is the logo that I crafted for the company and what is going to be the basis of the bottle’s sticker and the packaging’s overall design.  Also, as a side note for those of you paying attention, my former website thejameson.com has been defunct for quite awhile.  I never was able to create something that I was happy with and it never materialized.  Since Radiator has been something I’ve stayed fairly committed to, it has taken on what I would want the site to actually be, I am going to be changing it to the new thejameson.com and building on it from here.  You will be able to take the same link (thejameson.tumblr.com) to here, but now typing in “thejameson.com” will also bring you to this same location!  So mark your bookmarks (those of you who are frequent) the change should happen in the next day or two.
