Local Kent
Yesterday I decided on going for an impromptu photography adventure. It had finally stopped being humid and 90 plus degrees outside. Taking a wandering walk with my friend and Undead Design co-hort, Jes, we made our way through parts of Kent we had never been in. On these side roads and back alleys, we noticed a significant amount of… what can be described as “hidden disregard.” Unexpectedly we found completely empty and abandoned houses, boarded up shops and roads that haven’t been touched or repaired in what seemed like at least a decade or more. Kent hides a lot of this from the main view of the city, and its apparent that the city also doesn’t have any legislation about property maintenance either. Between junk car parts, compost piles and shin length grass, many houses just seems to be forgotten. Across from what appears to be an elementary school is what looks like the remains of a cleared out house fire, a boarded up and broken windowed house and an emtpy rental supply company. Hardly territory for kids to be, but that also explains why not many people were around and the people we did see gave us strange looks. I think I am going to make a regular thing of adventuring some of these sections of town that seem to have this same quality to them… I think there is something merit in their dilapidated state… at least photographically.
