new project: Munny
I’ve taken it upon myself to invest into a new outlet for creativity. They are called Munny.

They have been around for a short time now as a DIY toy where it comes with one accessory, the Munny, a marker and a sticker. Created by Kidrobot (started in 2002) they have created a subculture around them filling up message boards with all of the customizations that people have made. Some of them are absolutely brilliant, others uninspired. I got mine from my hometown comic shop Carol and John’s Comics in Cleveland, OH. John is really big on these things in the store and they have been selling them for awhile now to an ever increasing market of interested creatives and people who like cute things. When I was home recently talking with Carol (John’s mom who runs the shop with him), she was telling me all about them and thought that I’d be interested. She was right.
Though I am still in the beginning stages of conceptually thinking, I’m really kind of excited to make some of these. I’ll probably take step by step photos and post them with the final versions here once I get started. If anyone is interested in them check out Kidrobot’s site here: http://www.kidrobot.com/
I’m really hoping that this turns out. I’ve been interested in making designer toys myself for awhile now but never had an outlet or somewhere to start. Perhaps this might make something fun to jump into. If all goes well with this and it is as fun as I imagined, perhaps I’ll move onto creating some of my own. I’ll keep everyone posted on what I’m working on. I’m thinking now about a few things and how to make them more creative than what I’ve seen. (maybe a zombie, pumpkin head, mech robot, nerdy stuff… you know) If you’ve got any suggestions, email me. Maybe I’ll start making some and selling them. Who knows. Sketches and more in a few days.
