Political
Hey everyone. I’ve been pretty busy lately. Recently, I was asked to make a quick t-shirt design for the College Democrats as part of their efforts to help Obama right before the election next week. I thought it was an interesting oppurtunity. Even though it is a low budget thing right before the election, I decided to put a little time aside to do my part.
They are planning on stenciling the design I made for them on to t-shirts to pass out to the volunteering students and staff with their efforts in the last few days left until November 4th. They didn’t have the budget to get them screen printed, but thats part of what is so engaging about the Obama campaign. Its about regular people, being inspired to take part in our government for the first time/again and realizing that together, as Americans, we can make a difference. For the better portion of recent history, politics as usual has actually caused a bit of problems for the average person, so sitting back and trusting the government to be acting in our best interest is mostly out of the question. In Barack Obama’s campaign, one of the major connecting forces has been simply the fact that people need to care, and we can prove we do by actively taking a role in our government no matter who you are. So when it comes to it, the design for the College Democrats is just that. People, Kent, and uniting to help elect the man that we believe has the American people’s best interest in mind. It isn’t about socialism comparisons, experience, age, vice presidential running mates or any of the distracting things the media and candidates would love for you to be taken away by. In this election, its about our country, healing the wounds we’ve created in the world and amongst ourselves after two seriously close and divisive elections since the turn of the century. So when I approached this idea, I knew what was important to students is that the majority of us on campus have lived a decent part of our lives in war time and we are all ready for a change… and I had to do my part as well.
I know not everyone is an Obama supporter, and I apologize for allowing my personal political opinions make it on to this site. I, of course, will probably keep it to a minimum from here on out, but I though this was an interesting opportunity and worth mentioning. I hope that I have no offended anyone, as that isn’t my goal. Bipartisanship and the unity of the people of America are my interests, after all, being part of a country that has been through as much as we have in recent time… doesn’t it seem ridiculous for that not to be the goal? Together we will move forward into the future, regardless of the candidate who wins. This isn’t about continuing to divide the American people into segments and populations of people who hate/dislike/mistrust each other, so again, I do apologize for allowing politics to enter this site. It’s more a commentary on the social situation, why I chose to help make this design, who it is for and why. After all, design, thanks to Barack Obama predominately, is now a major tool in the political landscape for success.
I made the design into a desktop wallpaper for anyone who is interested by the way. I have a 1920x1200 resolution one I can send to you via email if you are interested. For now though, here is the smaller version (around 1024x800 if you click on it):
I know the hip stencil effect is kinda trendy, but I just went with it since thats more or less the purpose I made this for anyways. It’s all in good fun. Perhaps if I had more time I would have made this into something larger.
