USG - FlashFest logo (draft 1)

I’m working on a logo design for FlashFest, which is the annual end of the semester event on campus that is free to students. It is noted for having a major act (or a few soemtimes) come to campus and perform outdoors on stage (indoors if it rains).

I came up with a couple of ideas.  This one being the most recent.  I had to have a comp yesterday, so this is the first draft. I was not given a lot of direction for the logo surprisingly.  So I went with the school’s mascot (an eagle) as the major identifier in the logo. I’ve never quite understood the name being “The Golden Flashes” or what that has to do with an eagle, but I remembered the water tower that has an eagle shooting a lightning bolt out of its wing on it near north campus. So instead of the eagle with super powers, I decided to just make a golden flash into an eagle of lightning. Not much cooler than that!

We’ll see what they want soon. I’m just interested to see it make it’s way on to t-shirts, stickers and how the possible “projection on the back of the stage” is going to turn out. Should be interesting.
