GD 2: Junior Review
A classic project in the Visual Communication Design major is the Junior Review Poster. Junior Review is a critical review process where the entire faculty gets together with student individually to critique their portfolios and determine whether or not they receive the Bachelor Arts which has students completing their senior year with a few more classes, or the Bachelor in Fine Arts where students stay a bit longer (typically an extra semester, sometimes two additional to senior year) to complete more studio classes. So our goal is to make a poster with no other requirements than these:
Junior Review 2009
School of Visual Communication Design
Kent State University
The dates of Junior Review (this year it is April 16th and 17th)
A minimum size of 14x17
The posters are on display in the Art Building for about two weeks in the main hallway in the building. Yearly, after every student in Graphic Design 2 makes their poster, the faculty chooses the best one and it becomes the signup sheet for us to show them our portfolio. This is mine:
My poster printed is 28x42 inches. At the bottom it reads:
“By signing this poster you hereby declare yourself and your portfolio ultimately prepared for judgement.”
I’m going for laughs. Swiss laughs. Swaughs even.
We’ll see who wins when they are announced in a week or so. Best of luck to everyone!
UPDATE: I’ll have a photo of this up once I get it back.
