New photography on Flickr

I posted some new photography on my Flickr account. I’ve been keeping up with my goal to take a new photograph everyday. I’ll be posting a new one there every day until my Flickr Pro account ends in December. Today’s photo (and a few supporting shots) have been posted of this very old massive tree that fell on campus yesterday from the wind storm that blew through Ohio. The wind storm has left thousands out of power in Ohio with downed electrical poles and trees/branches/leaves everywhere. Check out the rest here:
at night
For my next and final illustration assignment of the semester, I am suppose to do a watercolor painting of a scene that shows exterior and interior lighting at the exact same time. It sounds difficult, and probably will be. We are allowed to work from a photography, which is the handy thing about this situation, so last night I went out to take photos of ways to explore the concept and give an interesting narrative. I started taking photos at dusk with the lights on in my apartment but i couldn’t find an interesting enough perspective. So I ventured a bit out of my territory to another one of the apartment complexes near me that have a more interesting architecture (they are kind of dumps actually, but at least at night they are interesting to look at). Walking around felt kinda creepy considering I could see into a bunch of people’s apartment, and while having a camera made me out to be some type weirdo so I had to keep out of sight for the most part. (I actually think I found a guy trying to steal a bike, that was weird) The nice thing about taking these pictures was that there was this cold purple from the sky and the excellent warm glow of the lights inside, as well as some outside that are on the top of the building making for some really great lighting situations. So, armed with my tripod and a couple second exposures I had my shots.
The next step is to actually translate this into a black and white drawing before I turn it into a watercolor. So I’m looking forward to that. I’ll post the sketches of what photo I end up using later so you can watch it from start to finish. But thats all for now. Here is the photo I am thinking of using:
